Photographing Families With Teens
I know you. You used to get family photos done every year when your kids were little. Each year they would change so much it was a no brainer to get a shoot on the books each year. Now your kids are older and heading into the teen years and getting them to do anything other than scrolling TikTok seems like a chore.
Unpopular Opinion: I absolutely love photographing teenagers!
They are in this amazing age of self discovery and finding their identity. Where once you were shoving puffs into their chubby hands to keep them busy, now you are having actual conversations with them about current events and life.
I wholeheartedly reject the stereotype that this age is just difficult and we have to just white-knuckle through these years until they’re off to college. Guess what? You GET to enjoy this stage in life. Give yourself permission to book the shoot, even if you know they probably will wear something you don’t like or the 50/50 chance that they are a bit moody when you pick them up from school that day. Yes being a teenager is hard but lets get rid of the narrative that this age isn’t as amazing or worthy of documentation as the baby and toddler years.
